LANAP – Surgery Without A Blade

Heal Your Gums With LANAP® at Alex Rader Advanced Dentistry

At Alex Rader Advanced Dentistry, we’re always seeking to improve treatment methods through safe and innovative procedures. With the latest in dental technology, our Walnut Creek dentists can offer patients Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP), also known as laser-assisted regeneration, to help treat periodontal disease.

As an associate member of the Institute of Advanced Laser Dentistry and a certified provider of LANAP, Dr. Rader is capable of providing our patients with advanced techniques, minimally-invasive treatments, and effective procedures.

What Is LANAP?

LANAP is an innovative laser technology that offers a less painful, more accurate alternative treatment to conventional surgeries. The laser is used to target and remove diseased tissue, eliminating any need for painful incisions and pesky sutures.

While still highly effective, traditional periodontal therapies can be painful and time-consuming. Additionally, they don’t stimulate stem cells that help with regrowth in lost bone structure.

BENEFITS OF Laser Assisted Regeneration

Our laser treatment plays a vital role in correcting occlusal problems, or problems with the patient’s bite, which is typically a key factor of periodontal disease. Addressing occlusion can help with other issues such as sleep apnea, headaches, and neck aches.

Many other advantages patients experience when receiving treatment with LANAP include:

  • Non-invasive, more comfortable surgery
  • Minimized discomfort and swelling
  • No need for incisions or stitches
  • Stimulated gum regeneration
  • Shorter recovery period
  • Improved oral and overall health
  • Effective, long-lasting results

How the LANAP Process Works

One of the major benefits of using LANAP is that there’s no cutting or sewing of the gums. Patients only need local anesthesia, which allows them to recover shortly after each appointment and can be completed within two 2-hour sessions at our Walnut Creek office.

1.

At your appointment, Dr. Rader will use a laser called the PerioLase® MVP-7™, which targets the infected area without harming any surrounding tissue. The laser eliminates inflammatory cells around the tooth to open space between the tooth and the gum. This allows our dentist to scrape out any excess bacteria with hand tools.

2.

Once the bacteria are removed using a combination of both the laser and general tools, the laser will form a gel clot, which attaches the gums to the new, clean tooth surface. Dr. Rader will adjust any bite trauma that you may have, and the new gum tissue will begin to regenerate and heal.

3.

After LANAP is complete, you’ll be able to drive yourself home and most likely return to work the next day and resume regular activities. Healing around the gums may take a few days, so we suggest you stick to a soft food diet for a few days post-operation.

Is LANAP Right for Me?

Most patients with mild to moderate cases of gum disease qualify for LANAP. At your initial consultation with Dr. Rader, he’ll evaluate your gum disease to determine how advanced it is and whether or not LANAP is right for you. To schedule your appointment, call our Walnut Creek office at (925) 932-1855.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can any dentist perform LANAP?

Only trained, qualified dentists can perform LANAP treatment. To be certified, dentists must complete Laser BootCamp®, a comprehensive three-day training program at the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD). Two additional days of training conclude the year-long certification process, ensuring any dentist who completes the program ends with a thorough understanding of the procedure.

Dr. Rader is an Associate of the IALD and a certified provider of LANAP treatment. When you visit our Walnut Creek practice for laser regeneration, you can rest assured you’re in good hands.

Does insurance cover LANAP?

Yes, your insurance may cover the cost of your LANAP treatment. Our dental team recommends reaching out to your provider to get a more in-depth explanation of your coverage. We also offer financing options at Alex Rader Advanced Dentistry to ensure each patient gets the care they need without breaking the bank. If you have any questions about dental expenses, please call our walnut Creek office at (925) 932-1855.

How long does LANAP treatment take?

At Alex Rader Advanced Dentistry, LANAP treatment typically takes two appointments that last two hours each. This is much quicker than traditional gum surgery and is a safer option. Since the laser doesn’t cut into your gums, the risk of post-treatment complications with LANAP is also very low.

Is LANAP dangerous?

While there are inherent risks with any medical procedure, LANAP uses an FDA-approved, safe laser that only interacts with harmful bacteria. At your initial consultation, Dr. Rader will inform you of the risks that accompany medical procedures so that you’re fully informed. At Alex Rader Advanced Dentistry, we use the safest techniques to ensure your health is well taken care of.
